    Get PDF
This article introduces the preliminary results of a computational network model research approach. The aim of this model is to help estimating sampling errors of an ongoing personal network survey, as well as to describe the network observed. In this way, it presents an alternative path to the egocentric analysis of representative data of personal networks, using a simulation multiagent model in order to make a sociocentric analysis on partial information of a network. The survey used as empirical reference frame for the model is the Encuesta de la Deuda Social Argentina (2006), which is applied annually to 1500 household along the country, using a multistage representative sample of adults in 7 large Argentinean cities (Gran Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, Neuquén, Salta, Resistencia and Bahía Blanca)

Vocal caricatures reveal signatures of speaker identity

What are the features that impersonators select to elicit a speaker’s identity? We built a voice database of public figures (targets) and imitations produced by professional impersonators. They produced one imitation based on their memory of the target (caricature) and another one after listening to the target audio (replica). A set of naive participants then judged identity and similarity of pairs of voices. Identity was better evoked by the caricatures and replicas were perceived to be closer to the targets in terms of voice similarity. We used this data to map relevant acoustic dimensions for each task. Our results indicate that speaker identity is mainly associated with vocal tract features, while perception of voice similarity is related to vocal folds parameters.Wetherefore show the way in which acoustic caricatures emphasize identity features at the cost of loosing similarity, which allows drawing an analogy with caricatures in the visual space.Fil: López, Sabrina. Get PDF
The Linear IgA deposit related disease or Linear IgA disease (LAD) is a chronic, uncommon and autoimmunological mucocutaneous disease, characterised by linear IgA deposits along the basement membrane zone. In mainly cases, moreover cutaneous lesions, there are oral mucosal and other mucosal lesions. There are also, some cases published of Linear IgA disease limited to oral mucosa. The known of this disease is important for the establishment of a correct differential diagnosis in cases of blistering mucocutaneous diseases. In this paper, we analyze the most important features of this disease, attending specially to the oral manifestations

[ENG] In this work, an experimental procedure to determine the temperature distribution in sheet buttwelded joints has been established. Related to light structures, the experiments are focussed on stainless steel elements welded by GTWA procedure. The proposed methodology lets the authors analyze the influence of welding parameters on the heat affected zone. The experimental method can be applied to other types of structural steels and arc welding processes

    Planificación de trabajos en intervalos.

    Get PDF

Auditory environmental context affects visual distance perception

    Get PDF
To perceive the distance to an object through the visual modality, an observer uses a variety of cues, many of which may not be directly related to the target. This is illustrated by the fact that in a well-lit environment (with multiple visual cues) visual distance perception (VDP) is relatively accurate, whereas in a dark environment (where the observer can only see the target) VDP be- comes inaccurate. Besides, a number of recent studies indicate that VDP is not only affected by the availability and reliability of depth cues, but also can be influenced by the context even in the presence of multiple visual cues. Here we provide evidence that VDP is influenced by the auditory environmental context through reverberation-related cues. We conducted VDP experi- ments in two dark rooms with extremely different reverberation times: an anechoic chamber and a reverberant room. We first show that the distance to a visual object located in the reverberant chamber was perceived significantly farther than the same target located at the same distance in the anechoic chamber. The results also show that the maximum distance perceived by partic- ipants correlated significantly with the perceived size of the room. In addition, participants who performed the experiment in the reverberant room reported a perceived size greater than those who performed the experiment in the anechoic chamber although both rooms are of similar sizes. Secondly we note that by separating participants between musicians and non-musicians only the former group perceived differences in the size of the room through auditory modality; moreover, only this group perceived the distance to the visual object in the reverberant chamber farther than in the anechoic chamber. On the other hand, the group of non-musicians did not perceive dif- ferences in the size of both rooms or in the perceived distance in both chambers. These results show that the auditory environment can influence the VDP, presumably by reverberation cues related to auditory perception of the size of a room

    Get PDF
Adamantiades-Behçet disease (ABD) is a chronic multisystemic vasculitis that is able to affect any human organ or system. Recurrent oral ulcers are a very important clinical sign. ABD is a worldwide pathology, which prevalence varies according to the population and geographic location. Although ABD has been known for ages, its aetiology remains an enigma. Genetic, immunological and microbiological factors have been associated. A wide spectrum of clinical manifestations (oral, genital, cutaneous, ocular, neurological, vascular and gastrointestinal) and an unpredictable evolution with repeated periods of exacerbation and remission are the most representative aspects of this pathology. The complex treatment of ABD requires a deep multidisciplinary cooperation; therefore, there is an extensive development of new therapeutic agents that have improved the prognosis of ABD. In this review were analysed the main etiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of the disease

    Get PDF
Objectives: Stress and anxiety are controversial factors involved in the complex pathogenesis of Recurrent Aph - thous Stomatitis (RAS). The determination of salivary cortisol is a useful, simple and safe test to detect states of high stress or anxiety. The aim of this study is to check for changes in salivary cortisol levels in patients with RAS during periods of active disease. Study design: A measurement of cortisol employing Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA) was car - ried out in samples of unstimulated saliva from 20 patients with active lesions of RAS and 10 healthy individuals used as controls. Results: Increased levels of salivary cortisol were detected in 3 cases, all of them within the group of patients with RAS. In none of the control group patients the level of salivary cortisol was increased. The mean level of salivary cortisol was 0.64 mg / dl (range 0.2 to 1.62) for patients with RAS and 0.57 mg / dl (range 0.25 to 1.09) for controls. Conclusion: Salivary cortisol levels are not statistically higher in patients with active lesions of RAS

Prosthodontic rehabilitation using dental implants has become a common practice in dentistry at the present time. The number of complications related to dental osseointegrated implants has increased according to the generalization of its use along the last decade. Among the most common of these complications are chronic inflammatory conditions affecting both hard and soft tissues around dental implants. Although severe complications are uncommon, in recent years several cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma adjacent to dental implants have been published. In this paper we present a new unusual case of primary oral squamous cell carcinoma arising around a dental fixed prosthesis over osseointegrated implants in a 76 male patient with no previous history of malignance and no risk factors related to oral cancer

Objetives: Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common pathology of the oral mucosa with a complex and multifactorial etiology. Tumour Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF?) is a cytokine with an important but not well-known role in the development of new lesions in RAS patients. Modifications of salivary levels of TNF? in RAS patients during the active periods of the disease have been measured in this work. The possible implication of TNF? in RAS etiology is also discussed. Study design: The study group was composed of 20 patients previously diagnosed with RAS and randomly selected. As a control group 10 healthy patients were also randomly selected. In both groups a TNF? assessment was carried out in non stimulated saliva. All the patients in the study group presented active lesions at the moment of the salivary sample collection. Values oscillating between 0 and 8.1 pg/ml were considered as normal. Results: Salivary TNF? levels are 2 to 5 times higher in RAS patients than those of healthy patients. Conclusions: TNF? has a possible implication in the RAS etiology and it may also have an important role in the search of new treatments for this disease
